Industrial shelving for everything you pick by hand

Pallet racking stores pallets; industrial shelving stores everything else. Boxed parts, cartons, totes, archives, tools, tyres, e-commerce SKUs - the hand-picked stock that makes up most of the line items in a typical warehouse belongs on shelving designed for the job.

We design, supply and install industrial shelving systems across Somerset and the South West: longspan shelving for bulky hand-loaded goods, heavy duty industrial shelving for dense parts storage, and multi-tier shelving structures that take picking up two or three levels.

Shelving rarely arrives alone - most of our schemes combine industrial shelving units with pallet racking for reserve stock and sit happily on or under mezzanine floors, which is exactly why having one designer across all of it produces a layout that actually flows.

Systems for every duty

The right industrial shelving unit depends on what's going on it and how it's picked.

Longspan shelving

The workhorse. Longspan shelving spans up to 2.4 metres between uprights with chipboard, steel or mesh decks, carrying 250-600kg per level - ideal for cartons, bulky goods and anything awkward picked by hand. It's effectively hand-loaded racking, and it's the backbone of most warehouse shelving schemes.

Heavy duty industrial shelving

Industrial steel shelving with closed or open bays for dense storage of parts, tooling and stock in bins - higher capacity per shelf, tighter pitch, optional dividers, drawers and doors for controlled stores.

Multi-tier shelving

Where stock counts outgrow the footprint, shelving builds upward: multi-tier industrial shelving puts walkways between levels, served by staircases and goods lifts, turning one storey of building into two or three storeys of picking.

Industrial shelving done as a service

Designed, not just sold

The SERP is full of shops selling industrial metal shelving by the bay. We survey, design the layout around your pick paths, then supply and install it.

New and used

Quality used industrial shelving saves 30-50% where stock allows - we quote both so you choose with real numbers.

Installed properly

Levelled, fixed and load-signed by our own installation teams - not flat-packed to your goods-in door.

Integrates with racking

One layout across shelving, pallet racking and cantilever - reserve above, pick below, nothing fighting for the same aisle.

Grows in bays

Add-on bays extend runs in minutes; beam levels re-pitch as products change. The system flexes with the stock.

UK-spec systems

We supply proven industrial shelving UK manufacturers' systems with components available for decades.

Choosing the right shelving system

Three families cover almost every requirement. Boltless rivet shelving is the workhorse for cartons, archive boxes and light parts: quick to assemble, easy to reconfigure and the lowest cost per bay. Longspan shelving steps up for bulkier hand-loaded goods - its beam-and-deck construction takes 300 to 600kg per level across wider spans, making it the natural choice for trade counters, stores and pick faces. Heavy duty steel shelving with reinforced uprights and steel or chipboard decks handles dense product like fittings, fasteners and documents at scale.

The key questions are the loaded shelf weight, how often the layout changes and whether picking is manual or assisted. We can compare new and suitable second-hand industrial shelving, delivery and installation for anything from a stockroom to a larger multi-tier arrangement. Send photographs, approximate quantities and load information so the available systems and a realistic budget can be checked.

Industrial Shelving FAQs

Standard industrial shelving units carry 100-350kg per shelf; longspan shelving runs 250-600kg per level depending on beam length and deck. We specify from your actual stock weights and fit load notices to every run.

Access method. Racking is loaded by forklift with pallets; shelving is loaded and picked by hand. Longspan shelving blurs the line - racking-style construction at hand-loaded heights - which is why it suits bulky goods too awkward for standard shelves.

Yes, where good stock is available. Used longspan and industrial steel shelving typically saves 30-50% against new, and every used component is checked before installation. We'll quote new and used side by side.

Absolutely - it's one of the most common combinations we build. We design the floor loading around the shelving scheme from the start, so decks, point loads and fire strategy all line up.
