Common triggers for deeper review

Coordinate services and fit out
Partitions, ceilings, lighting, ventilation, sprinklers, conveyors and cable penetrations can affect the fire strategy. They should be coordinated before the ceiling or casings are ordered.
A later office fit out can change occupancy and escape assumptions. Design the intended end state rather than approving a storage shell and changing it immediately afterwards.
What a useful quotation should state
The proposal should identify the assumed use, required rating, protected area, ceiling system, column treatment, fascia, penetrations, access panels and interfaces with stairs and walls.
It should also clarify who provides fire design, Building Control information and alterations to alarms, emergency lighting, sprinklers or other building systems.

Who will occupy the floor, how many people, what will be stored, how will they detect a fire, and what routes lead to a place of safety? What happens to the operation below, and are sprinklers, alarms or smoke control already present?
Answering these questions early lets the structural, staircase and fit out design support the fire strategy instead of fighting it.

Installation quality and evidence

Handover information should identify products, ratings, drawings, inspection records and any maintenance or access requirements.
After the floor is occupied
Update the fire risk assessment, emergency plan, staff induction and escape signage. Do not allow later services or fit out works to penetrate fire protection without suitable fire-stopping.
Changes in storage height, materials or occupancy can alter risk. Review the fire strategy when the operation changes materially.
